Dr. Gilberto “Tito” Carrero earned his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine. He went on to complete his Anesthesiology residency, becoming Chief Resident of Puerto Rico Medical Center. after that, Dr. Carrero joined the faculty at Vanderbilt, where he obtained subspecialty certification in Pain Medicine.
Dr. Carrero worked for Vanderbilt University Medical Center for 20 years, serving in numerous roles, including Medical Director of Vanderbilt Orthopedic Surgicenter; Director of the Division of Pain Education at Vanderbilt University Pain Center; and as an Assistant Professor and Associate Clinical Professor of Anesthesiology.
Dr. Carrero is one of Tennessee’s premier anesthesiologists and pain medicine physicians. His practice approach is multimodal, utilizing multiple analgesic modalities that work on different parts of the pain pathway. He also incorporates different image-guided interventional procedures to reduce full dependency on opioids and their complications and side effects.
In his spare time, Dr. Carrero enjoys world traveling, running and biking.
